Books for Pregnancy

Welcome to my first ever blog post.  As a start I wanted to start a series of posts with books to read covering various aspects of the childbearing year.  This post will focus on books about being pregnant, future posts will deal with books for birth, books for breastfeeding and books for parenting.

First, I have a request, please stay off of babycenter or any other pregnancy forum.  Secondly if you have a fabulous book that I have failed to share, please comment with your recommendation!
  1. Dr. Sears' The Healthy Pregnancy Book: I loved this book when pregnant. None of the "this can go wrong and here's how" that I found in other popular pregnancy books.  Lots of here's things to think about. Stuff about nutrition
  2. Expecting Better by Emily Oster: I don't always agree with her end result but I do like lots of evidence and lots of things to think about.  Good book for discussion topics with your partner.
  3. The Mama Natural Week-by-Week Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth: The Mama Natural website was my go to when I was pregnant with my first two kiddos.  I found it to be relatively unbiased and a nice more natural view of pregnancy and birth.
  4. The Whole 9 Months: A week-by-week Nutrition Guide with Recipes for a Healthy Start: I like to cook, or at least I did before I had 3 kids.  I love cook books and nutrition and any birth worker will tell you that nutrition can really help your pregnancy and birth to be smoother.  I also love food and I have found many of these recipes to be yummy both during pregnancy and for a growing family.
  5. Painless Childbirth: So I was trying to keep childbirth books for a separate post about books for birth but this one has activities to be doing during the pregnancy so I'm including it here.  This one is a little more on the energy/woo-woo/crunchy spectrum so there's the heads up.  In spite of that I did find the exercises to be healing and helpful.  Though I make no guarantees that the book will ensure a painless childbirth experience, I do think that being emotionally, socially, and physically prepared for birth is very helpful.
Thus concludes my first ever blog post.  If you have a favorite book, comment below! I wish you a lovely pregnancy!
